If you love Italian food then….

August 2, 2009

If you like Italian food then you will love Dubrovnik because the entire Croatian coast is very similar to Italy, especially the cuisine of the South. Dubrovnik itself has many specialities and different ways to prepare popular dishes that distinguish itself from its Italian neighbours. The best restaurants are in the old town and can cater for a variety of budgets. If you are feeling flush then why not check out The Nautika. Located in the primary entrance to the old town in Pile it has beautiful views from their Lovrjenac and Pentaur terraces. The views are amazing and so are the food and the service – a very romantic setting indeed.
However if the occasion is really special then only one place will do – Gil’s is the place to be. Famed for supreme international cuisine – think Jamie Oliver food without the lisp and views to die for. Yeah this is the place. For fish lovers then we would recommend Proto as well as the catch of the day or Tuna.

For those looking to dine on a budget then there is plenty to offer in the old town too. Of particular note for their service and food has to be the traditional restaurant of Lokanda. Curry lovers can do no better than the imaginatively named Taj Mahal offering Bosnian specialties, Ekvinocij, situated just beneath the Walls and not easy to find, but which is very good, and in comparison to others, still manages to keep the atmosphere of a cosy, small, non-tourist restaurant.
One of the typical meals of villages close to Dubrovnik is broiler lamb. You can find restaurants offering such gastronomic specialties in the valley of Konvale. There is also an excellent ‘village’ restaurant in the village of Bosanka on the Sr? hill above Dubrovnik.

For all of you sea shell lovers, we recommend a trip to Mali a small town 1 hour’s drive from Dubrovnik, where we would single out the Bota Šare restaurant – affordable, top quality and beautiful. We would recommend the drive. Finally if you have been to any restaurant of note then please drop us an email with a review and we will certainly include it!
